Ambergris Caye is a great location for kitesurfing! No matter if you are a beginner or an expert kitesurfer, there is a spot for you!
If you’re not familiar with kitesurfing yet, good news! We offer teaching sessions for all levels of kitesurfers. Below, you will find details about our teaching methods and processes. If you need more information or are interested, you may contact us.
The shallow reef 2/3 mile offshore creates a flat water paradise 20 miles long without crowds. Beginners, for your safety all the teaching is conducted just inside the reef in knee-deep water, so you don’t need to worry about getting dragged into anything dangerous. Intermediates can get assisted launches out by the reef, advanced kiters can launch in several locations just north or south of town. We generally don’t launch from our beach as it gets a bit busy with windsurfers and sailboats.
Downwinders are something else we love to do whether it is 3, 5, or 10 miles or to the next island, whether it is just for fun or to help with your board skills. If you are part of a more adventurous group then the lagoon side of the island is an undiscovered flatwater paradise stretching all the way to Mexico.
Instruction and Guidance is a Must!
Never attempt to do kite surfing without guidance or instruction from professionals. Instruction is a must for kitesurfing. There is no “just trying it’ with the big traction kites. If you would like to try then we will set you up with a small trainer kite. We believe that the best way to learn to kite is on a one to one basis. That way you are always under the eye of the instructor and safe. We have a PASA certified instructor and we have safety boats on hand.
First, and the basics are kite control skills. This is a two and a half hour session covering equipment review, safety, rigging, how to fly the kite, flying practice, landing and launching. Most of this is conducted out in our shallow training area by the reef.
Next up are board skills. You must have completed the kite control session either with us or from another instructor before you can progress to this part of the course. Areas covered are flying review, body dragging, introduction to the board and water starts. This will also last for two and a half hours.
Finally, we’ll move on to supervised rentals. Because of the nature of kite surfing, upon completion of the beginner course, you will need to have an instructor on hand to assist you for your first time. The instructor will be there for you for two hours to make sure you’ve properly learned and applied the ropes of the basics of kitesurfing and to assist you and point out what needs to be focused on and improve.
If you need guidance, don’t hesitate to contact us today!
